The Polycryo groundsheet is made in the United States by Gossamer Gear. It is one of the simplest and lightest ways to protect the floor of your tent, tarp, or sleeping pad from moisture, dirt, and minor ground abrasion.

Its main advantage is its extremely low weight. It can easily be trimmed to the exact size of your shelter to provide effective protection without adding more than a few grams to your pack.

When to use it

Polycryo makes sense when you want to protect the floor of an ultralight tent, a tarp, or an inflatable sleeping pad. It helps reduce wear caused by rocks, roots, branches, or abrasive ground.

It also prevents ground moisture and dirt from coming into direct contact with your gear. It is especially popular among long-distance hikers for its excellent balance of weight, pack size, and protection.

Design

The sheet can easily be trimmed with scissors to fit any tent or shelter. It also does not fray or require any special edge finishing.

For best results, it should be trimmed slightly smaller than the footprint of the shelter. This prevents it from sticking out and collecting rainwater underneath the tent.

Made of Polycryo

Polycryo is an ultralight plastic film commonly used as a groundsheet in ultralight hiking. It stands out for offering good tear and puncture resistance while keeping weight extremely low.

In addition to being transparent and compact, it does not absorb water and dries very quickly. Once folded, it takes up very little space inside your pack.
