Ultralight Mountain Backpack
The Gorilla 50 ultralight mountain backpack is designed in Texas (United States) by Gossamer Gear. It is a highly regarded model that has been recently redesigned to make it even lighter and more comfortable than previous versions.
*It achieved the 2nd place as the best ultralight mountain backpack in 2023 by Outdoor Gear Lab.

When to Use It
The Gorilla 50 is designed for both weekend and multi-week routes in 3 seasons. It has a removable internal frame to transfer weight to the hip belt and stabilize the load, especially on long hikes. However, for shorter routes where you don’t need to carry as much gear, you can remove the frame and make it even lighter.
You can even remove the hip belt if you don’t need it. You can also detach the new G SitLight Camp Seat back foam and use it as a ground pad or as a sleeping pillow 🙂

Design
This latest version brings some small changes. Now, the Gorilla 50 comes with a size M hip belt installed by default, which fits most hikers. It also features a new, more comfortable, and ventilated back foam. Additionally, it comes in a yellow color that will be available upon reservation.
Other than that, everything remains the same. It has 2 side pockets and another front mesh pocket for drying wet rain gear. The shoulder straps are wide and contribute to a comfortable carry. The hip belt is wider and thicker, with 2 additional pockets to store small accessories.

Made with Robic Nylon
This ultralight mountain backpack is constructed with Robic, a type of ripstop nylon of very high quality manufactured by Hyosung. It has a thin polyurethane waterproof coating (PU) and is treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) on the exterior to prevent water absorption.
Compared to other nylon fabrics, Robic is up to 50% stronger and tear-resistant while remaining equally lightweight. For the Gorilla 50, they have used two densities: 70 denier and 100 denier for the areas most prone to abrasion.

I was looking for a backpack that could carry both my photography gear (camera, 2 lenses, filters, tripod) and my camping gear (ultralight tent, stove, down sleeping bag and ultralight sleeping pad, 2.5L hydration bladder, freeze-dried food, change of clothes, compact towel, first aid kit, and other essentials), and this one was perfect! Ultralight, comfortable, and versatile. It fits the back well because it comes in several sizes. It holds up well in the rain.
The only drawback for me is the belt adjustment system. It’s not well designed, and it’s difficult to thread the strap through the buckles. They could improve it by taking inspiration from Lowepro photography backpacks, which use a pulley-like system.
I recommend it 100% and would buy it again!
