The ultralight carbon fiber pole from the American company Six Moon Designs is stronger and lighter than other aluminum poles.
Six Moon Designs is a small company founded in the United States in 2002, specializing in the manufacturing of ultralight tents, tarps, and backpacks.
When to Use It
Many ultralight tarps and tents do not come with poles for setup and instead use trekking poles to support them. This eliminates an item from your backpack, reducing weight and volume.
Therefore, poles are an alternative for hikers who do not use trekking poles and need something very light to set up their shelter.
Design
The ultralight carbon fiber pole from Six Moon Designs folds into 3 sections of 38cm. It won’t stick out above your backpack, getting in the way of tree branches. You can secure it to the side or simply store it inside your backpack.
It’s between 40% and 60% lighter than conventional poles. This aspect is often overlooked as a way to reduce the weight of your backpack. However, it can have a significant impact when used effectively. So, consider it one of the final steps to “shave grams” off your backpack.
How to Assemble
When setting up your shelter, first tighten it with stakes until the pole starts to create a slight curve. Then, back off the tension until the pole stands completely vertical. This should provide sufficient tension to keep your shelter stable, even in strong winds.
