The Junction 3400 is a long-distance backpack made in Maine (USA) by Hyperlite Mountain Gear. Of all their models, this is the most versatile for multi-week routes.
It has a total capacity of 65 liters: 55 liters for the main body and another 10 liters in the external pockets. With this capacity, it’s perfect for multi-week long routes and loads up to 18 kg.
It’s designed for use in wet areas with tall vegetation where it’s easy to snag. That’s why, unlike the Southwest and Windrider, its side pockets are made from a tough fabric and the rear pocket is mesh to dry wet gear.

It has a large main compartment, an internal sleeve for a hydration system, and large belt pockets. The top is roll-top, which lets you adjust the load as you go, and even secure a jacket, a sleeping pad, or ropes.
It uses two removable aluminum stays to transfer weight to the hip belt instead of a full frame. The belt is sewn to the pack, unlike other backpacks. This keeps everything in place and improves carry comfort.

The Junction long-distance pack uses a hybrid fabric made from Dyneema and polyester which, in addition to its mechanical properties, is also very durable.
Dyneema is waterproof and absorbs less water than other UL fabrics. Combined with taped seams, you could say it’s a practically waterproof pack.
