The ultralight alcohol stove, made in Tokyo, Japan by Evernew, is extremely lightweight, durable, and will take up very little space in your backpack. If you are cooking just for yourself and follow the correct fuel usage precautions, there won’t be a better option.
When to Use It
These types of stoves have a very simple design, and their fuel, alcohol, is cheap and easy to find. However, alcohol stoves are not the most powerful. If you’re a high-altitude hiker accustomed to winter routes, you know you’ll need to choose other more powerful heat sources, like gas. Learn more here.
The Evernew ultralight alcohol stove has two diffusion zones: one around the base and another at the upper edge. This design increases its power even further. With 30 ml of alcohol, you can boil 400 ml of water in approximately 5 minutes.
How It Works
The alcohol is simply poured into the stove. A series of visible markings inside the container (30-60ml) allow you to easily measure the amount of fuel you’re using. How do you light it? You can use a match, or as we do, a spark from a magnesium fire starter.
Most alcohol stoves burn all their fuel at once, but thanks to the volume markers, it’s very easy to calculate how much fuel you need. Want a coffee? Easy. Pour a little less than the 30 ml mark, and use a support for greater stability of your pots and better efficiency.
Made of Grade 1 and 2 Titanium
Titanium is an extremely lightweight and strong metal. It doesn’t rust or corrode in moisture, making it highly durable. Pure titanium is rarely used commercially; it is typically mixed with other metals to create alloys with better performance or to reduce costs.
To differentiate the quality of each titanium alloy, they are divided into Grades, regulated by an international organization called ASTM. Evernew uses a Grade 1 and 2 titanium alloy, considered the purest commercially available titanium with over 99% purity.
