The Unbound 55 is a hiking backpack made in Maine (United States) by Hyperlite Mountain Gear. It maintains the brand’s minimalist philosophy and is very similar to the Southwest, but with more accessible exterior pockets, designed for long hikes without the need to stop.
The Unbound 55 is perfect for multi-day routes where you need more capacity without sacrificing lightness. With a total volume of 55 liters (44 liters interior + 11 liters in pockets), it allows you to carry a bit more gear for long treks or if you need more autonomy.
It is completely waterproof thanks to the Dyneema fabric and its sealed seams, so there is no need to carry a rain cover. Additionally, it can comfortably carry up to 18 kg.
The side and front pockets are designed for easy access to gear while on the move. The roll-top closure allows you to adjust the volume according to what you carry, and the bottom pocket is ideal for storing items you want to have always at hand.
As in the 40L model, it includes a removable support that transfers the weight to the hip belt without the need for a full frame, keeping the weight low and improving comfort during the hike.
It is made with Dyneema Composite Hybrid (DCH) fabric, which combines Dyneema and polyester. It is very durable and does not absorb water, ideal for demanding conditions. The base is reinforced with DCH150 to withstand more wear.
Thanks to sealed seams and waterproof fabric, it acts as a completely sealed backpack.
