It is a lightweight, weather-resistant, and minimalist backpack made of Dyneema. Designed to withstand long hikes and carry loads of up to 18kg.
The Junction 3400 is a long-haul backpack made in Maine (USA) by Hyperlite Mountain Gear. Among all their models, this one is the most versatile for multiple week routes.
It has a total capacity of 65 liters: 55 liters for the main compartment and another 10 liters from the external pockets. With this capacity, it’s perfect for long routes spanning several weeks and can carry up to 18kg.
It’s designed for use in wet areas with tall vegetation where snagging is easy. That’s why, unlike the Southwest and Windrider, its side pockets are made of a sturdy fabric and a mesh back for drying wet gear.
It has a large main compartment, an internal sleeve for the hydration system, and large pockets on the belt. Additionally, the top is rollable which allows for adjusting the load as you progress. It even allows for grabbing a jacket, a mat, or ropes.
They use two removable aluminum supports to transfer weight to the lumbar belt instead of a full frame. The belt is sewn to the backpack, unlike other backpacks. This ensures everything stays in place, improving carry comfort.
The long-haul Junction backpack uses a hybrid fabric composed of Dyneema and polyester which, in addition to its mechanical qualities, is also very durable.
Dyneema is a waterproof fabric and absorbs less water than other UL fabrics. With this, and the fact that the seams are sealed, we could say it’s practically waterproof.
