55-liter Hiking Backpack

Hyperlite Mountain Gear, based in Maine (United States), specializes in manufacturing ultralight backpacks and shelters made with Dyneema. The 55-liter Windrider hiking backpack is incredibly durable and waterproof for several weeks.

When to use it

The Windrider is primarily designed for walking in wet or very dry climates where a lot of ventilation is needed to dry wet gear or air out your used clothing. That’s why all its external pockets are made of mesh. It also makes it easier to see what you have inside the pockets 🙂

It has a total capacity of 65 liters: 55 liters for the main body and another 10 liters for the external pockets. With this capacity, it’s perfect for long routes of several weeks and loads up to 18kg.

Design

It features a large main compartment, an internal sleeve for the hydration system, and large pockets on the belt. Additionally, the top is rollable, allowing you to adjust the load as you progress. You can even grab the jacket, a mat, or ropes.

They use two removable aluminum supports to transfer the weight to the lumbar belt instead of a full frame. The belt is sewn onto the backpack, unlike other backpacks. This ensures everything stays in place and improves carrying.

Made of Dyneema Composite Hybrid

The Windrider 55-liter hiking backpack uses a hybrid fabric composed of Dyneema and polyester, which, in addition to its mechanical qualities, is also very durable.

Dyneema is a waterproof fabric and doesn’t absorb water like other UL fabrics. With this and the fact that the seams are sealed, we could say it is practically a waterproof backpack.
