Ultralight Hiking Backpack

Hyperlite Mountain Gear, based in Maine (USA), specializes in the manufacturing of ultralight backpacks and shelters made of Dyneema. The Windrider hiking backpack is incredibly durable and waterproof, ideal for multi-day routes.

When to Use It

The Windrider is mainly designed for walking in wet or very dry climates where a lot of ventilation is needed to dry wet gear or air out worn clothes. That’s why all its external pockets are made of mesh. It also makes it easy to see what’s inside the pockets 🙂
It has a total of 50 liters, enough space for an overnight stay or for multi-day outings. It allows loads of up to 18kg, enough to store all your gear.

Design

It has a large main compartment, an internal sleeve for the hydration system, and large pockets on the belt. Also, the top is rollable, allowing you to adjust the load as you go. It even allows you to grab the jacket, a mat, or ropes.
They use two removable aluminum supports to transfer the weight to the lumbar belt instead of a full frame. The belt is sewn to the backpack, unlike other backpacks. This ensures everything stays in place and improves weight distribution.

Made of Dyneema Composite Hybrid

The Windrider hiking backpack uses a hybrid fabric composed of Dyneema and polyester which, in addition to its mechanical qualities, is also very durable.
Dyneema is a waterproof fabric and does not absorb water like other UL fabrics. This, and the fact that the seams are sealed, means that it’s practically waterproof.
