Ultralight Soto Amicus stove with strong output, compact size, and excellent value for money.
Available with or without a piezoelectric igniter.
The ultralight Amicus stove from Soto Outdoors, made in Japan, is designed for hikers looking for a light, compact, and reliable stove for mountain cooking.
It’s a simpler, more affordable option than the Windmaster, while still delivering very good performance for its weight. It comes in two versions: with an integrated piezo igniter, or without an igniter for those who want to go even lighter.
It received the “2022 Best Buy” award from Outdoor Gear Lab.
The Soto Amicus is designed for boiling water or simple cooking for 1 or 2 people. It works especially well with small to medium pots up to 1300 ml.
It makes sense if you want a lightweight stove that’s more stable and reliable than many basic ultralight models. For larger groups or very wide cookware, it’s better to use an option with a wider base and more stability.
The Amicus uses a foldable 4-arm pot support that provides a stable base for pots of different sizes. The system opens and closes easily, and packs down very compactly in your backpack.
The burner head has a raised, concave shape that helps shield the flame from wind and improves combustion. The version with an igniter lets you light it with a single click, without having to pull out a separate lighter.
The Soto Amicus delivers 3260 W / 2800 kcal/h, enough to boil water quickly and cook with good flame control. It also simmers better than many simple gas stoves.
Important! If you use a windscreen, avoid trapping heat around the gas canister. Overheating the canister can be dangerous.
