Silicone Seam Sealer

The Silicone Seam Sealer is manufactured in the United States by Gear Aid (previously known as SilNet) and is specifically designed for application on Silnylon (silicone+nylon) or silpoly (silicone+polyester) fabrics.
A seam sealer seals the holes in the fabric created by the sewing machine needle. It also repairs punctures in the fabric. Simply apply a small amount over the hole, and it will prevent leaks 🙂

When to use it

Not all tents or tarps come factory-sealed. An example is the shelters from Six Moon Designs. This does not mean that you will get wet in the first rain.
You will need a silicone seam sealer depending on the type of routes you take. If your adventures are in regions with constant and continuous precipitation, it makes sense to seal them, but if you are hiking in dry areas with a low chance of rain, it may not be as necessary.

Design

One 42g tube, which we sell, is enough to seal a two-person tent or tarp perfectly.
But don’t wait until the last night to do it. Although it is easy to apply, the first time will take some time. Once the tent is set up, “painting” all the seams will not take more than 15 minutes, and it will take 3 to 6 hours for complete drying.

Made of Silicone

Only silicone adheres to silicone. This silicone seam sealer is the only one that adheres to silicone-impregnated or silicone-coated fabrics. It will not adhere properly to non-silicone fabrics.
For best results in sealing tarps and tents, set up the shelter and tighten it on a warm, sunny day. Clean the area of dirt, apply the sealer, and wait for it to dry.

Warnings

• Irritates eyes. Overexposure can cause skin irritation, drowsiness. May irritate nose and throat.
• Avoid contact with eyes and skin. DO NOT handle contact lenses with the product on hands. In case of eye contact, rinse with water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention. In case of skin contact, clean and rinse with water. Get medical attention if irritation occurs.
• Avoid breathing vapor. Provide adequate ventilation to reduce vapors below the discomfort level. In case of discomfort from inhalation, move outdoors.
• The product releases oxine (smells like alcohol) during curing.
• Keep out of reach of children.
